'Iris' by Monet becomes the most expensive artwork sold in France

Claude Monet's painting Iris was sold for 50 million euros, making it the most expensive artwork sold in France. The auction at Sotheby's in Paris featured intense bidding for nearly 45 minutes. This piece, measuring 1.60 by 1.80 meters, was displayed publicly for the first time and had remained in the Schlumberger family's mansion. Acquired by Jeanne Schlumberger, the painting was estimated to sell for between 22 and 30 million euros, marking a record for auction estimates in France. Other Monet works were also sold at the auction, including Saule pleureur and La Seine à Vernon. Christie's held another auction the same day.
