Irish farmers raise alarm over subsidies. RMF FM's findings are confirmed.
Irish farmers are demanding changes to EU regulations regarding payments for areas with natural constraints. They want member states to be obligated to provide these funds rather than having the option. The Irish Farmers Journal reports that the current payment program is valued at over 210 million euros. Farmers are planning a campaign to defend these subsidies, including in Brussels. The issue is particularly sensitive as the EU Council's position was agreed upon during Ireland's presidency, and farmers are now holding their own minister accountable. The future of these payments is uncertain, as they will depend on the decisions of future governments. Minister Stefan Krajewski assured that funds are available, but the Ministry of Agriculture's official statement only mentions that maintaining these payments is being considered for the 2028-2034 financial perspective.
