Italy and Spain lift the Schengen blockade

Spain and Italy have agreed to lift border controls that were affecting the Schengen area, following a diplomatic crisis over migration issues in Ceuta. The decision was made after a conversation between the Interior Ministers of both countries, confirming a political agreement reached by their leaders. The controls, initially implemented to address security concerns, resulted in minimal impact, detecting very few irregular migrants. The lifting of restrictions is seen as a political calculation by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who aimed to avoid giving Spanish President Pedro Sánchez an electoral advantage. Despite the resolution, differences in migration policies between the two nations remain.
