Italian MEP on hunger strike over humanitarian crisis in Russian-occupied Oleshky

Pina Picierno, an Italian MEP, has initiated a hunger strike to highlight the humanitarian crisis in Oleshky, Ukraine. The town, located near Kherson, has seen its population plummet from 24,000 to 1,700 due to the ongoing conflict. The EU reports that Oleshky lacks essential supplies such as food, medicine, and clean water. Ukraine's foreign minister has described the situation as dire, with escape routes heavily mined and under threat from drones. He has called for international organizations to facilitate humanitarian access. Additionally, Pope Leo has reached out to Vladimir Putin, urging for a ceasefire to enable aid delivery.
