How will the MPs vote on the abolition of term limits? "I hear it will be a close call"
On Thursday, the Polish Parliament will vote on a bill to amend the Electoral Code, proposed by PSL, which aims to abolish the two-term limit for mayors and local leaders. The bill also seeks to remove restrictions on candidates running for multiple offices simultaneously. Concerns have been raised about whether there will be enough votes to pass the bill, as some lawmakers are abroad. PSL's Urszula Pasławska emphasized the need for fairness in political terms, suggesting that if local leaders can serve more than two terms, the same should apply to parliament members. Meanwhile, some members of the ruling coalition express skepticism about the bill's implications, particularly regarding potential conflicts of interest and the return to party politics. The two-term limit was established in 2018, alongside a five-year term length.
