How did the most controversial action of the Mašín brothers unfold? It has recently been 75 years since the killing of the esenbák.
On September 28, 1951, a trap was set for police officer Jaroslav Honzátko by Ctirad Mašín and his group, resulting in Honzátko's death during a robbery at a police station. The Mašín brothers, along with their associates, had been preparing for armed conflict against the communist regime, believing their actions were justified. The group had previously attempted a robbery in Chlumec, which ended violently, leading them to decide that future encounters would require lethal force. During the Čelákovice operation, they used a fake accident to lure Honzátko, who was subsequently disarmed and killed. Ctirad Mašín later claimed that the killing was premeditated, while his brother Josef, who was not present, supported the actions taken. The incident raises questions about the justification of violence in resistance against oppression.
