Taking your pet on the train? That is usually 3 euros per trip

Last year, around 160,000 train passengers took their pets on board, according to NMBS data. A supplement of 3 euros is charged for pets like dogs and cats, while smaller pets in cages can travel for free. NMBS explains that the fee is necessary for safety and comfort reasons. Interestingly, the pet fee can sometimes exceed the ticket price for short trips. NMBS notes that pet travel is primarily for leisure, which limits the demand for subscription options for pet travel. Additionally, only pets that fit in specified cage dimensions are allowed, while other animals must be caged. Pets like guinea pigs can travel for free if they fit in the cage.
