It is necessary to better anticipate crises and prepare for them, says Commissioner Lahbib.
In response to increasing crises in Europe, the European Commission plans to allocate two trillion euros to enhance risk prediction and response capabilities. Commissioner Hadja Lahbib emphasized the need for better preparedness, especially after record heat and wildfires this summer. The EU's solidarity mechanism was activated by the Netherlands and the Czech Republic, highlighting the urgency of addressing natural disasters. Lahbib noted the importance of a coordinated approach to emerging threats, including cyber and hybrid attacks, and the necessity for member states to adopt a unified risk map. The EU aims to inspire member states with recommendations for improving crisis readiness.
