Jewish groups clash over whether EU antisemitism envoy should influence Israel policy, as controversial von Schnurbein goes back to Berlin

Two prominent Jewish organizations advocate for the EU's next antisemitism coordinator to brief diplomats on foreign policy, emphasizing the impact of EU decisions on Jewish communities. Pinchas Goldschmidt from the Conference of European Rabbis highlighted the importance of this role, while the European Jewish Congress stressed the need for the coordinator to integrate these concerns into EU policies. This comes as Katharina von Schnurbein, the current coordinator, prepares to transition to a new role in Germany after a decade of service, during which she maintained strong connections with EU leaders and the Israeli government.
