Young thirty-somethings, passionate about the railway: the drivers of the AVE 280 high-speed train

The tragic train accident in Spain claimed the lives of two passionate machinists, Antonio Acedo Meneses and Daniel Cabañas Cob, who had long dreamed of operating high-speed trains. Both men, in their thirties, were deeply committed to their profession and concerned about railway safety. Acedo Meneses, the lead driver, had a background in a working-class family and was politically active, advocating for better infrastructure. Cabañas Cob, a trainee, had recently joined Renfe and was enthusiastic about his work. The accident occurred when an AVE train collided with a stationary Iryo train due to a failure in the automatic signaling system, resulting in 69 fatalities, including both machinists.
