Young people are 'media-savvy' than expected: Gen Z recognizes AI images faster than older generations

A study by Arteveldehogeschool reveals that younger generations, particularly Gen Z, are more media literate than older ones. They can identify AI-generated images and understand algorithms better. While 81% of Gen Z can recognize AI images, only 52% of the general population can. The study highlights a significant gap in media literacy across age groups, with younger individuals being more adept at recognizing social media influencers and advertising tactics. However, understanding AI remains challenging, with younger users struggling to grasp its complexities despite frequent use. The research emphasizes the need for media literacy initiatives to encompass all generations, not just the youth.
