Novaya Gazeta newspaper to close after pressure from the Kremlin

The independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta will cease operations in November due to pressure from authorities. Director Sergei Sokolov stated that the government has blocked online resources and confiscated the printing press, leading to the closure. Founded in the 1990s, the publication was known for its investigative journalism on corruption and human rights violations. It faced increasing censorship, especially after the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, which made independent reporting nearly impossible. Despite efforts to continue publishing, the newspaper's staff has been forced to abandon their offices, marking the end of a significant voice in Russian media.
