Judge in Nassar case says gymnastics continues "to fail"
Ten years after Larry Nassar's arrest for sexually abusing over 250 young gymnasts, Judge Rosemarie Aquilina asserts that significant changes in gymnastics have yet to occur. Speaking at an event in Rotterdam, she emphasized that the sport prioritizes success over athlete safety, highlighting a lack of accountability and meaningful reforms. Despite some progress in athlete advocacy and safety regulations, Aquilina believes that the culture of abuse persists. The U.S. has implemented measures like the US Center for Safe Sport and mandatory reporting laws, but critics argue these changes are insufficient. Nassar, now 63, is serving a 175-year sentence for his crimes, which included abuse of Olympic champions.
