Offices of dissolved radical right-wing party in EU parliament searched
Searches were conducted in the offices of the European Parliament in Strasbourg and Brussels as part of an investigation into potential misuse of EU funds by the now-defunct far-right Identity and Democracy (ID) group. The ID group was dissolved in 2024 and succeeded by Patriots for Europe (PfE), which claims to be unrelated to the investigation. The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) confirmed the searches but provided no further details. Similar searches occurred last summer in several countries, with ID members accused of misusing over 4 million euros in EU funds. Marine Le Pen, a candidate for the French presidency, was convicted of fraud involving EU funds but had her election ban lifted on appeal, although she remains guilty of illegally diverting EU money to her party.
