Karácsony would change that the tax paid by tourists now goes entirely to the districts

On Monday, the Budapest Association of Municipalities will meet to discuss key issues facing the city, initiated by Mayor Gergely Karácsony. He highlighted a social crisis linked to public safety and cleanliness, proposing that 1% of the city's business tax revenue be allocated to address homelessness and drug use. Discussions will also cover road conditions, suggesting a unified parking system to fund road repairs. Additionally, the mayor emphasized the need to rethink tourism management, as taxes from tourists go to local councils while the city handles related challenges. He also pointed out the urgent issue of unaffordable housing, proposing a 32 billion HUF program for affordable rental housing. Eight district mayors announced plans to revive the Budapest Association of Municipalities, criticizing the mayor's unilateral decisions regarding parking reforms.
