András Kármán shook hands with Jens Stoltenberg, confirming the 93 billion Norwegian Fund agreement

On October 23, Finance Minister András Kármán met with Jens Stoltenberg, confirming a nearly 93 billion HUF cooperation agreement for Norwegian support to Hungary. The agreement focuses on green transition, healthcare development, and strengthening local communities. They also discussed Hungary's budget situation and the prospects of adopting the euro. Kármán highlighted Stoltenberg's family ties to Hungary, recalling his father's involvement in evacuating Hungarian refugees in 1956. Norway had accepted around 1500 Hungarian refugees at that time, a gesture that still influences bilateral relations. Previous funding periods saw Hungary receiving no support due to the government's refusal to allow independent organizations to decide on fund distribution, resulting in a loss of approximately 78 billion HUF.
