András Kármán and his team demonstrated how we can reach the Hungarian euro waiting room

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Finance released its medium-term economic and budget program for 2030, outlining its vision for Hungary's economy and public finances. The 35-page document serves as a foundation for the 2027 budget, emphasizing EU funding, growth, productivity improvements, and a responsible fiscal policy. Unlike previous optimistic forecasts, this plan is more grounded in reality, projecting a conservative growth rate of 1.7% for this year, increasing to 3.1% by 2030. The growth structure is expected to shift from household consumption to investments, with a focus on improving productivity. The budget deficit target is set below 3% by 2030, essential for euro adoption. Structural reforms are planned to enhance sustainability, including tax reforms and pension system adjustments. Average gross wages are projected to rise by 5.3% by 2030, with a stable euro exchange rate and decreasing oil prices anticipated.
