The battery may catch fire: seventy thousand Volkswagen electric cars are being recalled
Volkswagen is recalling 72,700 electric vehicles globally due to potential manufacturing defects in battery cells that could cause fires. The recall affects models produced between 2022 and 2025, including ID.3, ID.4, ID.7, ID. Buzz, and some Cupra Born vehicles. Approximately 10,000 cars are being recalled in Germany alone. Internal investigations revealed that certain battery cells did not meet quality standards, leading to risks of overheating and fire in extreme cases. Affected owners will be notified by mail and are advised to limit battery charging to 80% until repairs are completed. This shift in demand may pose financial challenges for the company.
