The Novaya Gazeta editorial office is being evicted in Moscow
The Novaya Gazeta editorial office is being evicted from its building in Moscow after 29 years, as reported by RBK. Editor Sergey Sokолов stated that they have not yet found a new location and have been given little time to relocate. Concurrently, the museum dedicated to journalist Anna Politkovskaya, located at the same address, is also closing. In September, the Russian Ministry of Justice labeled Novaya Gazeta as a foreign agent, citing the dissemination of unreliable information about government decisions. A search was conducted at Sokолов's residence, and he was summoned as a witness in a criminal case regarding the illegal use of personal data. Oleg Roldugin, a section head at Novaya Gazeta, has been detained and is currently under house arrest. Sokолов became the editor in September 2023 after the previous editor, Dmitry Muratov, was designated a foreign agent by authorities.
