Ókovács Szilveszter, the director of the Opera House, has been fired
Tarr Zoltán has terminated the employment of Szilveszter Ókovács, the director of the Hungarian State Opera, effective November 2. This decision was based on findings from an institutional audit that revealed several irregularities, including unauthorized bonus payments. Balázs Ivacs will temporarily take over the director's responsibilities while a new application process for the position is initiated. The ministry's announcement clarified that the performances of the Hungarian State Opera will not be affected by this change. Ókovács has been under scrutiny for various criticisms during his tenure, which began in 2013, and he has defended his record against claims of salary stagnation.
