A 77-year-old man was executed in Florida
A 77-year-old Vietnam veteran, William Reeves, was executed in Florida for a murder committed 40 years ago. In 1986, he called emergency services after an incident at a store, leading to a struggle with Officer Richard Raczkowski, during which Reeves obtained a gun and shot Raczkowski. Initially sentenced to death in 1987, his case was retried and resulted in another death sentence in 1992. The U.S. Supreme Court denied his final clemency request, leading to his execution by lethal injection. Despite being a 100% disabled veteran due to PTSD, Governor Ron DeSantis approved the execution, disregarding pleas for clemency from over 100 veterans. This case has intensified the debate over the death penalty in the U.S.
