Tesco is withdrawing from the Czech Republic and Slovakia
Tesco announced the sale of its Czech and Slovak operations to Ahold Delhaize for €1.7 billion, focusing on its UK and Ireland markets. The transaction is pending regulatory approval and is expected to close in late 2027. Tesco's CEO stated this move simplifies operations, while the Hungarian division remains unaffected but under review for future options. The Czech and Slovak branches generated significant revenue, contributing to Tesco's regional profits. Analysts have noted the uniqueness of this division since Tesco has sold most of its foreign networks since a 2014 accounting scandal.
