Tesco is withdrawing from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, while continuously reviewing its operations in Hungary

Tesco has agreed to sell its operations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia to Ahold Delhaize for €1.2 billion. The deal includes offices, stores, and logistics centers in these countries. Tesco plans to return most of the proceeds to shareholders through a share buyback program. CEO Ken Murphy stated that the company will focus more on its core operations in the UK and Ireland. The transaction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2027, while the Czech and Slovak networks will continue to operate under Tesco until then. The sale does not affect Tesco's operations in Hungary, where management is exploring strategic options.
