The Kladno cannoner shocked the Italians. The hero of the uprising paid for a fateful decision

František Kloz, a legendary Czech footballer, died in 1945 as a resistance hero after being injured during a fight against Nazis. Known for his exceptional goal-scoring ability, he scored over 590 goals for Kladno, including 175 in the Czechoslovak league. Kloz participated in a notable match against Inter Milan in 1934, where he helped Kladno achieve a surprising victory. He also represented Czechoslovakia, scoring six goals in ten matches. Tragically, he was severely injured during the May 1945 uprising and refused amputation of his leg, leading to his death at 40. His legacy is honored in Kladno, where the stadium bears his name and his life story has been documented in literature.
