Climate goals dangerously far out of sight: all countries are doing too little

The UNEP's latest report highlights that global greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, making the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C target nearly unattainable. To limit warming to 1.7-1.8°C by 2050, significant reductions in emissions are necessary. Current policies are projected to achieve only a 5-8% reduction by 2030, far below the required 18%. The report emphasizes the urgent need for countries to accelerate their climate actions, particularly in phasing out fossil fuels. Despite some progress in renewable energy, the overall outlook remains grim, especially following the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement under the Trump administration. The upcoming COP31 conference in Turkey is expected to reignite discussions on necessary policy changes.
