KLJ Sleidinge sees dream come true after 33 years: construction of new youth center in Evergem will start soon

After over 30 years of waiting, KLJ Sleidinge will soon begin construction of a new youth center in Evergem. The search for a suitable location started in 1993 but faced numerous challenges, including location issues, permits, and rising construction costs. Since 2009, KLJ has been operating from temporary containers, initially meant for five years but now used for 17 years. Financially, the project was difficult due to increased costs, but in 2023, they received nearly €250,000 in funding from the Flemish government, with the condition that the building will also be available for other groups. The official groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for November 15, marking a significant milestone for the organization.
