KLM fined by US government for flying over Iraq

KLM has been fined $320,000 by the U.S. Department of Transportation for violating airspace regulations over Iraq, breaching agreements with Delta Air Lines. The violations occurred between January 2022 and May 2025, with flights operating below 32,000 feet in restricted areas. The FAA has strict safety rules for airspace affected by military conflicts. Air France, KLM's sister company, was also fined $425,000 for similar violations. Both airlines are committed to complying with aviation regulations and have implemented measures to enhance adherence to airspace restrictions.
