The NAV is investigating suspected budget fraud and money laundering in connection with the ventilator business of Szijjártó's ministry.

The Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) is investigating suspected budget fraud and money laundering related to ventilator purchases during the COVID-19 pandemic. Allegations include a criminal organization profiting over 3 billion HUF through inflated prices and tax evasion. The investigation involves the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, led by Péter Szijjártó, which purchased ventilators and masks from China. NAV has seized assets worth 1.5 billion HUF and arrested several suspects, including one in Austria. Reports indicate that the ministry paid significantly more for these supplies than the intermediaries did.
