Kosovo: 49-year-old murdered by brother-in-law. Earlier she asked the authorities for help

Protests in Kosovo's capital highlighted the ongoing issue of violence against women, following the murder of Arlinda Zekaj, who had warned authorities about her life being in danger. Zekaj, who had previously reported domestic violence, was killed by her brother-in-law after returning home without police protection. In response, Kosovo's parliament convened to investigate state institutions' accountability, with Prime Minister Albin Kurti criticizing systemic neglect in ensuring safety and justice for victims. The Ministry of Justice reported over 2,800 domestic violence cases in 2025.
