Kremlin releases list of exiled opponents subject to sanctions
Russia has released a list of exiled opposition figures facing sanctions under a controversial new law. The list includes 12 individuals, such as Mikhail Khodorkovski and Ekaterina Schulmann, who have left Russia and some of whom have been imprisoned for opposing the Ukraine invasion. The law imposes temporary restrictions on these individuals, including blocking bank funds and denying access to public services. UN Special Rapporteur Mariana Katzarova criticized the law as a means to inflict 'social death' on critics abroad, aiming to silence dissent against the war and the government. Since the Ukraine invasion in February 2022, the Kremlin has intensified its crackdown on dissent, leading to severe prison sentences for many.
