A critical vulnerability has been discovered, making Wikipedia and the BBC website inaccessible.
A critical vulnerability in PHP has led to the shutdown of various government websites and services across Europe, including parts of Wikipedia and BBC. Attackers could exploit these flaws to run programs remotely without passwords. Countries like the Netherlands, Finland, and France have taken precautionary measures, temporarily disabling affected systems. The vulnerabilities were discovered by cybersecurity researchers from Calif and Wiz, utilizing advanced AI technology. PHP developers released security patches, but experts warn that simply updating WordPress is insufficient; PHP on servers must also be updated. The issue potentially affects around 70% of the internet, according to estimates.
