Crisis around the Constitutional Tribunal. The Deputy Chairman of the National Council of the Judiciary pointed out what needs to be done
In a recent statement, KRS Vice-Chairman Zawistowski emphasized that political authorities should not compromise the safety and rights of judges appointed to the Constitutional Tribunal. He asserted that only the Tribunal judges should determine its functioning and that the Sejm is solely responsible for selecting judges. Zawistowski proposed that allowing all appointed judges to exercise their right to adjudicate is the simplest solution to the ongoing crisis. He highlighted the General Assembly of Judges' crucial role in restoring the Tribunal's proper functioning and warned that escalating conflicts would not resolve institutional issues. The statement comes amid rising tensions regarding the Tribunal's leadership, following the suspension of President Bogdan Święczkowski and Vice-President Bartłomiej Sochański. President Karol Nawrocki interrupted his trip to Senegal to address the situation, while Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized the need to restore the rule of law.
