Plastic recycling under pressure: Bionerga seeks savior for loss-making factory in Beringen

The recycling plant Fromto in Beringen has faced significant financial losses, totaling 30 million euros over the past three years. The parent company, Bionerga, has sought creditor protection due to challenging market conditions for plastic recycling. Currently, 30 employees remain at the operational facility, which processes waste from blue PMD bags into new raw materials. Bionerga aims to find an industrial partner by February to support the project amid rising energy costs and competition from cheap new plastic imports, particularly from China. The company is also looking for EU support to enhance the competitiveness of European recycled plastics.
