A quarter of Belgians always work, even when they are sick

A significant portion of Belgian workers, over a quarter, report working while sick, according to Mensura's biennial survey. The study reveals that 82% of Belgians are willing to work even when ill, with 27% stating they always do so to avoid backlog. The pressure to work despite illness, known as presenteeism, is a concern, as it can hinder recovery. Mensura emphasizes the importance of supportive measures from employers, such as flexible hours and remote work options. However, mental health discussions remain taboo, with only 12% of employees feeling comfortable addressing these issues with their supervisors, highlighting a need for improved dialogue.
