The Archdiocese of New York will pay 800 million dollars to more than 1,300 victims of sexual abuse

The Archdiocese of New York has reached a settlement of over $800 million with representatives of hundreds of sexual abuse victims from clergy members. This agreement, expected to be formally signed in early November, marks the conclusion of lengthy negotiations for the victims. Each of the approximately 1,300 victims will receive at least $250,000, with potential increases based on the severity of the abuse. Archbishop Ronald Hicks expressed hope that this settlement would provide some comfort to the victims. The Archdiocese aims to refocus on its mission after years of scandals involving clergy abuse, which have plagued the Catholic Church in the U.S. since the early 2000s.
