The concentration of greenhouse gases that warm the climate hit records again in 2025

In 2025, atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases reached unprecedented levels, with CO2 averaging 426.8 ppm, a 53% increase since 1750. Methane and nitrous oxide also hit record highs. The World Meteorological Organization warns of long-term temperature rises due to these gases, primarily from fossil fuel combustion. The annual increase in CO2 has tripled since the 1960s, with a notable rise of 2.8 ppm from 2024 to 2025. Despite a slight moderation in the increase, the ongoing reliance on fossil fuels poses significant climate risks. The upcoming COP 31 conference in Turkey will address these urgent issues.
