The European Public Prosecutor's Office and the UCO investigate the embezzlement in the maintenance of the AVE Madrid-Sevilla tracks

The European Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating potential mismanagement in the maintenance contracts for the Madrid-Sevilla high-speed train line, following two major train accidents. The investigation focuses on contracts awarded by ADIF using European funds, with allegations of fraud and misappropriation of public funds. The inquiry, which began after the Adamuz accident, aims to determine the conditions under which these contracts were awarded. The investigation is being conducted in collaboration with the UCO of the Civil Guard, and the European prosecutors are prioritizing this case. Key contracts for the line's renovation, exceeding 136 million euros, were authorized in September 2021, partially funded by the EU.
