The Prosecutor's Office requests to add the charge of embezzlement to Zapatero's indictment

The National Court judge, José Luis Calama, has requested a list of gifts returned by former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero during his terms. This comes as the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office seeks to expand the investigation into Zapatero for alleged embezzlement related to jewels he reportedly kept instead of returning them to state property. The judge's request follows a report from the prosecutor regarding a rogatory commission to Saudi Arabia concerning the jewels seized from Zapatero's office. The prosecutor argues that if the jewels were indeed gifts, Zapatero may have committed a crime by not returning them to the state. The investigation also includes separate allegations of smuggling and tax offenses related to the jewels valued at 1.3 million euros.
