AI is already starting to affect employment in the most exposed activities

The impact of artificial intelligence on employment is becoming evident, particularly in sectors like programming and design. A study from the Institut d’Economia de Barcelona indicates that increased exposure to AI correlates with rising unemployment rates in these fields. Specifically, a 10% increase in AI exposure is linked to a 1.7% rise in unemployment from 2024 to 2026. Despite this, companies continue to hire, suggesting a complex relationship between AI adoption and job security. Additionally, the rise of solopreneurs is noted, with more individuals starting businesses independently, aided by AI technology. This trend reflects a shift in the entrepreneurial landscape, with solopreneurs increasing from 23% to 26.5% of startups in Spain.
