The Madrid-Sevilla line is not spared from cable theft, although Catalunya takes the cake

The Madrid-Sevilla high-speed line has experienced cable thefts, contributing to service disruptions, similar to the situation in Catalunya, which has reported the highest number of incidents. Adif reported 320 cases of cable theft in Catalunya from January to October, with a significant increase in incidents this summer. The thefts have led to train delays and reduced frequencies, particularly affecting the Rodalies network. In response, Adif and the Mossos d’Esquadra launched the Pla Via to combat the surge in thefts. Notably, a major incident in May 2024 caused extensive service disruptions due to damaged signaling systems. Since the Pla Via's implementation, there have been multiple arrests related to these thefts.
