Libya's ratification of a maritime agreement with Turkey redraws regional lines
The Libyan House of Representatives has unanimously approved a maritime agreement with Turkey, originally signed in December 2019, which delineates exclusive economic zones. This agreement is expected to face opposition from Egypt and Greece, who argue it infringes on their maritime rights. The EU also condemned the deal in solidarity with Greece. Initially, the agreement had legal weaknesses as it was only between Turkey and the Tripoli government, with Turkish President Erdogan imposing it as a condition for military support to Tripoli against the Libyan National Army led by Khalifa Haftar.
