Russia announced as the host country for the 2030 World Weightlifting Championships

The International Weightlifting Federation has announced that the 2030 World Championships will be held in Moscow, marking Russia's return to international sports. Since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, no Olympic federation competitions had taken place in Russia, with events relocated elsewhere. In May, the International Olympic Committee lifted the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee and allowed Russian athletes to participate in team sports and qualifications for the 2028 Olympics, although without their national anthem or flag. The IWF decided in June to fully reintegrate Russian athletes, followed by similar decisions from global judo and swimming federations, as well as the International Paralympic Committee for the 2026 Winter Games.
