Syria and Jordan prioritize de-escalation after tensions caused by strikes from the Hashemite Kingdom on southern Syria
Amman and Damascus are seeking to ease tensions following unprecedented conflicts on October 27, when Syria condemned Jordanian airstrikes that sparked public outrage. Both capitals expressed their intention to investigate the circumstances of the bombings. Initially, Jordan claimed to have killed over 20 ISIS fighters in these strikes in Deraa and Souweida, later acknowledging civilian casualties, including a woman and three children among the seven reported victims by Damascus. Since Ahmed Al-Charaa's rise to power in December 2024, Jordanian airstrikes had targeted drug and arms traffickers without provoking Syrian government tensions, which denies any coordination regarding the recent raids.
