The EU warns of the impact of climate change and the Dana in Valencia: "Companies will think twice before investing in the region"

The European Commission has introduced its Climate Resilience Framework, which includes a Climate Resilience Law aimed at establishing a common reference trajectory for global warming. This legislative proposal requires validation from the European Council and Parliament, compelling countries to develop national adaptation plans against climate change. Officials highlighted Valencia's recent torrential rains as a clear example of climate impact, warning that such conditions deter investment in less prepared regions. The legislation was presented by Teresa Ribera and Wopke Hoekstra, emphasizing the real and deadly consequences of climate change, including significant economic losses. The Commission noted that climate-related damages could cost around €200 billion between 2022 and 2025. However, the obligation for countries to act remains procedural, as climate effects vary widely across regions.
