The tram union will remove a lane from cars entering Barcelona via Diagonal

The tram union in Barcelona will eliminate a lane for cars entering the city via Diagonal, redirecting traffic to the side streets. This project aims to merge Trambaix and Trambesòs by 2031, with construction starting in summer 2027. The city plans to invest 120 million euros for urbanization and drainage works, while the transport authority will allocate an additional 97 million for infrastructure. The changes will enhance public transport lanes and bike paths, but will reduce car access, reminiscent of previous modifications in other city areas. The project is expected to take 44 months, including testing, before the tram union opens.
