The Hungarian economy slowed down, the GDP data disappointed
According to the Central Statistical Office, Hungary's GDP growth rate fell short of the previous quarter's performance, with a quarterly increase of 0.6% and an annual increase of 1.7%. For the first three quarters, the economy grew by 1.7% compared to the same period last year, driven mainly by industrial growth, particularly in vehicle manufacturing and electronics. However, agriculture negatively impacted performance due to severe summer droughts. Analysts expressed disappointment over the data, with expectations of 1.7% and 1.8% annual growth not met. Household consumption remained a key growth driver, but investment recovery is still lacking. Experts suggest potential improvement in the fourth quarter if industrial momentum continues, aided by stronger exports and EU funding, despite ongoing high energy prices and international risks.
