The puffin, a large migratory seabird, subject to jet lag

Researchers have discovered that the English puffin experiences jet lag during its foraging trips. This finding comes from a study analyzing GPS tracking data of 1,045 puffins, revealing their extensive travel patterns. While puffins typically nest along the British coast from February to July, the study focused on their shorter foraging trips rather than their long migrations to Argentina. The research aims to understand how these birds navigate vast oceanic distances without visual landmarks, despite their known reliance on the sun for direction.
