A Florida police officer was caught moving into a dead man's house and managing renovations in the deceased's name for years.

A Florida police officer was arrested for unlawfully taking possession of a deceased man's house and using his identity for renovations. Brian Louis Sguros, 35, worked for the Lauderhill Police Department and was involved in the discovery of 71-year-old Dennis West's body in July 2022. After claiming to be West's friend, Sguros took over the property, spending over $214,000 on renovations while using West's name for utility bills and permits. His actions came to light when a real estate company purchased the house from West's heirs. Sguros was charged with multiple offenses, including identity theft and misuse of personal data, and was suspended without pay during the investigation.
