Leo XIV first pope to vote in American elections
Pope Leo has voted by mail in the U.S. elections, marking the first time a pope has participated in a country's elections. Born Robert Francis Provost in the U.S., he retains American citizenship and also holds a Peruvian passport. His role as pope does not automatically disqualify him from voting, as the U.S. State Department states that accepting such a position does not mean losing citizenship, although it may be scrutinized if one takes on a head of state or government role.
