Literary scholar Laurent Breeus-Loos wins Flemish PhD Cup with research on crying knights
Laurent Breeus-Loos, a doctor in historical literature at the University of Antwerp, won the 11th edition of the Flemish PhD Cup with his pitch on emotional knights. The award ceremony took place in Ghent, where he received a training voucher worth €5,000 for Vlerick Business School. The competition encourages newly graduated doctors to present their research clearly to a broad audience. Out of 16 participants, 8 reached the finals, judged by a panel including media personalities. Breeus-Loos's research challenges the modern perception of knights as emotionless, showing that emotions were openly expressed in medieval literature. He also won a public prize of €1,500, while silver and bronze went to Bob Oeyen and Charlotte Van Driessche.
